Sake Cup - Yin Yang Moss Green #2
I have long been interested in the world of sake. I find the customs, traditions, flavours and aromas quite captivating. Although sake is not for everyone I think it’s similar to an oyster, in that you either can’t get into it or you love it!
I mix up my practices in the studio, and when my arms and mind need a rest form hand building I hit the wheel. I’ve found myself pretty demotivated to throw in the past, but now that I’ve done a sake deep dive I really look forward to my wheel sessions.
My cups come in an array of forms, often with a small base and wide open mouth to allow the sake’s aromas to escape. The glazes are my signature ‘peacock’ array of hues, in golds and metallic tones, green, blues and white.
The concept of yin and yang runs deep for me as I constantly aspire for balance in my life and beyond. My interpretation of yin and yang is found in the circle and spot design and features in a lot of my work. Here is is seen in a dark gold glaze over moss green, with a satin white interior.
