Twilight Bathers
I have long been drawn to and captivated by the work of the Impressionists. They were revolutionary in their time, seeing and depicting the world through a new and different lens, with a daring way of interpreting colour, form and subject matter, using chunky brushstrokes to leave an ‘impression’ of what they saw. I love the bold representations and textured colour of Cezanne’s work and love the idea that a functional item can also double as a work of art, on display when it is out of action.
I’ve used Cezanne’s ‘Bathers series as my reference for this work, plunging the 3 figures into an evening scene. This is a free hand painting using layers of underglaze colours and bold brush strokes.
Each platter is created using a slab rolling method and the design selected for its unique shape, no two are the same. The platter is based with a double foot to elevate the platter and for extra stability.
