Bloom

$4,900.00

This flowing organic shape, draws on the feminine. The form ripples and flows with movement. It speaks of femineity, strength, fragility, generosity and grace. I created this at a time when I was digging deep to discover my own strength, that over time had been bridled by trauma. I felt a ‘bloom’ of growth and courage while creating this piece, which enabled me to push the limitations of construction, to test my capabilities.

A rich, lustrous gold covers the surface bringing light and richness accentuating the contours, and highlighting the movement and flow of the object. I added fingerprints of texture to the lower section of the vessel alluding to growth from tenuous foundations.

Bloom is constructed using a variety of hand building techniques. My preferred method is coiling - long snakes of clay are rolled out and layered one atop the other then blended to form a solid plane. It is a slow process but if offers enormous flexibility in terms of design. This construction was particularly challenging - the forces of gravity were against my drive to push the parameters of balance and portray organic movement in an inanimate object.
