Budding Pod

$1,100.00

This piece draws on the concept of ‘the feminine’, of birth and rebirth, the seed which sparks creation. The bud is fringed with petals that cradle the elegant pod. An arrangement of greens lighten in intensity as it reaches the tip, with a blush of yellow bordering the transition from petal to pod.

Budding Pod is constructed using a variety of hand building techniques. My preferred method is coiling - long snakes of clay are rolled out and layered one atop the other then blended to form a solid plane, and paddled into shape. It is a slow process but if offers enormous flexibility in terms of design, the result is durable and pieces are peppered with delicate makers marks – each piece is completely unique in its own right.

This piece has not been internally glazed and should not contain liquid. I tend toward form over function, allured by texture, line, gravity, light and shadow, negative space, feminine and organic contours.
