Green Goddess Calla
This flowing organic shape, draws on the feminine. The form ripples and flows with movement. A rich, lustrous gold makes up the external surface and swathes of emerald green, turquoise and gold lure you in to the interior. Shown in 2 different lights, the images show how dramatic the colour change can be under different lighting conditions.
Green Goddess Calla is constructed using a variety of hand building techniques. My preferred method is coiling - long snakes of clay are rolled out and layered one atop the other then blended to form a solid plane. It is a slow process but if offers enormous flexibility in terms of design, the result is durable and pieces are peppered with delicate makers marks – each piece is completely unique in its own right.
Though this vase is functional and water tight, I tend toward form over function, allured by texture, line, gravity, light and shadow, negative space, feminine and organic contours.
