1:1 Wheel Throwing Instruction 3hr

$220.00

Wheel ‘throwing’ is a beautiful practice, grounding, hypnotic, meditative, thoroughly addictive, and quite tricky to get the hang of!

I give one to one instruction to maximise your tuition and fast track the learning process. The key to being able to throw is to first centre a ball of clay on the wheel. This sounds as though it would be an easy task, but it can take hours, weeks, months and even years to get it right! Particularly when you haven’t had the required instruction. I work with individuals to break down the process, assess strengths and areas to improve upon, trouble shoot technique and get you throwing with confidence in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

If you’re keen to learn the techniques and processes required to skill yourself up to enable you to pursue and enjoy your own wheel work, this session is perfect. If it is something you’ve always wanted to try and you prefer to steer clear of large classes to enjoy personalised tuition, this is for you. If you’ve been throwing for a while and have developed a few unhelpful practices that need ironing out, this is for you.

Times and dates are flexible and we can negotiate session times to fit with your schedule. If you are new to wheel throwing I recommend a 3hr session to start with. This will enable you to learn the basics of centring and throw 3 - 4 pieces. If you fall in love with this practice, a second or third session may be all you need to confidently begin your throwing journey. If you have had throwing experience and you’re looking to upskill or refine your practice a 2hr block may be sufficient.

Ongoing tuition can be arranged at $90/hr. This includes all clay, tools, tuition, basic glaze and firing.

After you have purchased a block of time please email Alex to find a suitable date and time.

Glazes - Glazing is where you can really make your mark as the creator. There are some beautiful colours and colour combinations available on the market, and the selection can be quite daunting. At the beginning of the course we will run through some options and orders will be placed to ensure delivery on time. Glazes cost from $25 - $40/500ml tub depending on brand and colour. this is in addition to the course fees. Clear gloss dip glaze is supplied.

Additional glazes MUST BE APPROVED and can be ordered directly through The Pug Mill (under Shop > Products > Ceramic Colour - Liquid) or via myself. This will be discussed at our first session.
